There are 2 basic ways to do results for a cross country meet.
Getting times:
Here are a list of free tools you can use to score cross country meets:

- For a smaller meets use finish cards.
- Write place numbers on index cards.
- Hand the cards to the runners as they cross the finish line (#1 for the first runner, #2 for the second………)
- Instruct the runners to take them to a scorers table where someone writes the name and school of each runner on the card.
- Then you can use the cards to transfer the info to a score-sheet. You can create your own score-sheet, print one off or order triplicate score sheet forms (these are nice because you have copies to distribute afterwards)
- Times can be added after you have the names.
- For a larger meet use bibs with tear off pull tags.
- Assign the numbers and write the names/school of each runner on their bib.
- The runners wear the bib when they race.
- When the runner crosses the line herd them into a chute made of stakes and string/rope.
- The chute keeps them in order until the can exit the chute where some takes their pull tags and places them on a stringer.
- When the race is over you can take the tags and transfer the names and order they finished to a score-sheet.

- Order free bibs from Road ID (and buy safety pins cheap!) Free Bibs
Getting times:
- use a stopwatch with a recall memory function (or a printing stopwatch).
- Each time a runner crosses the line you click the watch.
- After the race is over you can match the list of times to the list of runners (in the order they finished).
- Use a second person as a select timer. This person selectively times runners (not each one but getting as many as they can while making sure they record the runners number with an accurate time).
- When the race is over select names/times should match the results you produced by matching your finishers with the list of times. (if select timer has Johnny running 20 minutes, then your results should show Johnny running 20 minutes.
Here are a list of free tools you can use to score cross country meets:
- Excel score-sheet for cross country: It has a tab where you enter names and bib numbers, and another tab where you enter times, then it calculates the scores for you. Download it here: https://scottssoftware.wordpress.com/scotts-software/cross-country-scoring-software/
- Don't want to use bibs? Use finish place cards! How?
- hand out numbered cards at the finish
- Write the runners name on the cards
- after the race you enter names and bibs, use the finish place card numbers as the bib number
- then on the finish place sheet enter the place number as the bib
- enter the times and it will score the meet and create printable results
- X-note stopwatch: Turn your laptop into a display clock or printing stopwatch (or both at the same time!) Download here www.xnotestopwatch.com
- The program has digital clock feature, use the stopwatch option, change the colors to black background with yellow numbers, adjust the size and your screen looks just like an expensive display clock!
- Use the Interval feature to record finish times and save them to Excel. After the race is over you can copy the times into your excel scoresheet, then print out the results!
